Students Union:
College administration endeavours to give significant emphasis to holistic development of students. This is manifested in the opportunities students are given to express their ideas, hone their skills through various activities that empower them to achieve significant feats. Below are enumerated students’ representation in administrative responsibilities and participation in extracurricular activities.
Administrative and Academic Responsibilities
The college has a committed Student Union. Principal is the patron of this body and a professor in charge monitors and looks into the affairs. He is assisted by a student union activities coordination committee that comprises a convener and four members. reservations for girls in the executive office bearers and class representative.
The Student Union Committee of the college organises the Students Union election every year. An ordinance issued by the state government governs the electoral process of the student union. The executive council of the union comprises a President, Vice-President, Secretary and Joint Secretary. They are assisted by Class Representatives (CR). As per the ordinance there are reservations for girls in the executive office bearers and class representatives.
The student union is strictly an apolitical body and acts as representative of students during the session. The most relevant aspects of the union are bridging the gap between students and the administration. Members of the Student Union provide active assistance and guidance to the candidates and their parents during the admissions each year. The members ensure that the student grievances are put up before the authorities and are resolved on time.
Besides representation in the Students’ Union, student representatives in various committees like IQAC, BOS, Students’ Grievance Redressal Cell, contribute in fulfilling administrative responsibilities.
Student societies in each department have elected students as office bearers. The office bearers coordinate with the teachers and students and assist the department in promoting academic and extracurricular activities. Student societies at the college level are effectively managed by the elected office bearers with a professor as their mentor. They play an important role in organising events.
Participation in Co-curricular and Extracurricular Activities
Students are actively involved in various societies and participate in several inter-college/ university contests that provide them with an opportunity to showcase their talents in music, dance, debating, dramatics, painting, photography etc. The annual day celebrations and annual sports day are conducted by the Student Union. The Union awards students with cash prizes. The annual sports meet motivates them to further excel in their sports and inspire others to participate as well.
Students are also actively engaged in programmes like self-defence workshops, cleanliness drives, soft skill enhancement workshops, health check-up, social awareness drives and blood donation camps. Participaton in Handicrafts developing programmes like Creation of Archeological Replica and Dhokra Art Training Workshop has acquainted the students about the rich cultural heritage of India as well as the tribal culture of Chhattisgarh. They also participated in programmes like visits to national/biodiversity parks and historical sites.
Students are also engaged in activities that foster the spirit of community responsibility by addressing the needs of people who are from economically weaker backgrounds. This is done by organising social health awareness programmes to educate about issues like the ill effects of drugs, environmental hazards in using plastic bags and by conducting health sessions, blood test camps, sickle cell test and also by donating books and clothes to the needy. Each department is alloted Rs.2000/- to carry out such extension activities. NCC, NSS , Red Cross, and Women’s Cell of the college have also been actively involved in organising community welfare activities.
Due to the ongoing pandemic student union was not formed in the session 2020-21 but departmental societies, NCC, NSS, Red Cross, and Women’s Cell of the college were extensively engaged in awareness campaign on COVID-19 through documentaries and by providing masks to the needy. Vaccination drive was also carried out in the college by the NSS wing.
