The study area is a protected forest in Buxwaha tehsil in Chhatarpur district in the state of Madhya Pradesh. The study was carried out to determine the diversity at the tree layer. The study area was sampled with 50 square quadrats of 30 x 30 m size. In total 57 species of trees were recorded. Basal area was found to be maximum for mahua (Madhuca longifolia) while frequency, density and IVI were found to be maximum for teak (Tectona grandis). Different diversity indices produced different values. Whittaker plot indicated an almost log normal model while the K-dominance plot indicated poor evenness in the tree layer. The rarefaction plot indicated a little more effort required for sampling.
