Radio and Television are the two-effective medium of mass communication and assumes an enormou importance in the society. Doordarshan and AIR are two completely separate wings under the corporate umbrella o the Prasar Bharati. In this paper an attempt will be made to find out whether the independent status for Television and Doordarshan as important media agencies. The need of some sort of autonomy was always felt. As a resultan Prasar Bharati came into existence. To examine whether the bill is indeed a "charter of freedom for giving voice ( the people of India", an investigative approach has been adopted.
