1. rDNA Technology and Instrumentations
08 03 2016 To 14.03. 2016
Participants
34 Students of M.Sc. Sem II and M.Sc. Sem IV and faculty members of the department
Brief report
A 07 days workshop was organized in the department on rDNA technology and Instrumentation in collaboration with NITZA Biologicals Hyderabad. The workshop covered the theoretical part and practical training to the participants. Four faculty members of NITZA
1.  Extraction of DNA from plant (Hibiscus leaves), animal (Goat liver) and microbial (E.coli) sources, purification of DNA, quantification and characterization by electrophoresis
2.  The plasmid vectors isolation from bacteria, purification, restriction digestion, ligation and confirmation by electrophoresis
3.  Southern blotting of gel and preservation
4.  Preparation of competent cells by transformation and identification of tranformants
5.  Basic principles of instruments used in the above techniques.
6.  Report writing and discussions
Out come
The PG students learnt the complete procedure and precautions regarding rDNA Technology, the principle behind each step and handle ling of related instruments. The students also learn punctuality and time management during the practical sessions. At the end they  prepare a report on the programme and submitted to the department.

2. Genomics
13.04.2011 to 15.04 2011
Participants
Students of M.Sc. Sem II and M.Sc. Sem IV and faculty members
Brief Report
A three days workshop was organized in the department based on Genomics in collaboration with Disha LifeScience, Ahemadabad.
The programme was designed for development of both theory and practical skills of the students. It was included with:
1.  Isolation of Plant DNA from Medicinally Important plant
Withania somnifera.
2.  Purification and Characterization of isolated DNA by Agarose Gel Electrophoresis
3.  DNA quality confirmation
4.  Amplification of DNA by RAPD technique
5.  Quantification of DNA by spectrophotometer
Outcome
Students learnt the technique of isolation and characterization of DNA. They also learnt the amplification steps and calculation of amount of DNA in a given sample for future applications.

3. Enzymology
20.01.2010 To 23.01.2010
Participants
Students of M.Sc. Sem II and M.Sc. Sem IV and faculty members
Brief Report
A four day hands on training was organized in the department of Microbiology based on Enzymological theme in collaboration with Nitza Biological, Hyderabad. The training was included:
1.  Isolation of Rennet enzyme from Fungus
Mucor
2.  Isolation of Bromelain enzyme from Pineapple juice
3.  Purification of enzyme, Dialysis, quantification and characterization
4.  Application of Rennet for cheese making
5.  Application of Bromelian for meet Tenderization
Outcome
The students learnt the handeling of enzyme source, precautions during processing of enzyme and applications. They personally observe the enzymatic reactions and formation of end product and got experience of making cheese and tender meet.
